History of Our Church
This marker was erected in 1983 by the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission.
St. James Time Line:
- 1720’s Lovettsville area settled by William Wenner
- 1733 Church Organized
- 1755 Second Log Building Built
- 1819 Brick Building Built
- 1850 Original Parsonage Built
- 1902 Current Church Dedicated, named St. James Reformed Church
- 1913 Parsonage Built
- 1934 Merger of Reformed Church and the Evangelical Synod of North America
- 1940 Dedication of Memorial Windows in Church
- 1957 Evangelical and Reform Church Merged with Congregational Christian Churches to form the United Church of Christ, Church named St. James United Church of Christ
- 1962 Parish Hall Built Under Leadership of W. Francis Lindsey
- 2003 Decision made to become and Open and Affirming Faith Community.
- 2008 275th Anniversary of St. James
